Google is rolling out a new feature known as auto-archive for Android users.

The auto-archive tool automatically archives those apps which are not frequently used on Android phones. Through this feature, users will be able to free up storage without completely uninstalling the apps.

Google claims that the tool reduces the storage taken by such apps by 60 percent. Users will be able to retain the data of these archive apps.

If an app is archived by the tool, users can see a cloud icon overlaid on the app icon. If the user wants to use the app, tapping the icon will re-download it. The only condition is that the app should still be available on the play store.

Android users will need to opt-in to allow the new tool to work automatically. Users can also change their preferences regarding the tool.
