A six-member MQM-Pakistan delegation, led by Deputy Convener Khawaja Izharul Hasan, called on the city police chief, Javed Alam Odho, at the Karachi Police Office (KPO) on Tuesday to discuss the rising street crime in the metropolitan city.
The delegation, which also included MQM-Pakistan parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly Rana Ansar and MPAs Sanjay Parwani, Hashim Raza, Ghulam Jilani, and Abbas Jafri, pointed out that more than 110 people were killed and more than 350 injured in street crimes last year. Moreover, over 40,000 motorcycles were stolen, raising serious questions on the performance of the city police.
"Only poor people are being robbed by police in the name of snap checking," they told the police chief. The delegation members emphasised the need for complete security to the life and property of Karachi's citizens, and urged the Karachi police chief to take strict measures against street criminals.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi police, Odho briefed the delegation on the measures being taken by the police to eradicate street crime and drugs in the city.
