LAHORE:

The security of jails across Punjab has been put on high alert in view of the law and order situation.

According to sources, Punjab Prisons IG Mian Farooq Nazeer has instructed the officials concerned through a letter to improve the security. The jail officials have been barred from going on leave or leaving their station of duty without permission.

The letter has reportedly been sent to the regional officers and superintendents of jails across Punjab.

The superintendents, deputy and assistant superintendents have been ordered to always remain present on the jail premises.

The letter also contained instructions for ensuring better protection and supervision of the prisoners by boosting deployment of officials at the essential points rather than those of less importance from the security point of view.

The prison DIGs of all regions were instructed to visit the jails twice a week to review the security and discipline and inform the IG about the situation.

They were instructed that the CCTV cameras should be kept fully functional.

The IG also asked the officials to enquire from the prisoners about their problems during the visits and take practical steps for their immediate solution.
