Anti-polio campaign begins in 13 districts

Over 90,000 polio workers to vaccinate more than 11.35m children under the age of 5 in Punjab

A Sub-National Immunisa-tion Days (SNIDs) campaign began on Monday in 13 districts of Punjab, in which over 90,000 polio workers will vaccinate more than 11.35 million children under the age of five.

The campaign will cover the Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Layyah, Mianwali, Multan, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura and Sialkot districts.

As per an official announcement, the vaccination will be carried out in selected union councils of Rawalpindi and the whole of other districts.

It will continue in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad for seven days, while in other districts it will last for five days.

The Punjab Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) says it has mobilised stakeholders in all areas to facilitate the implementation of the polio campaign in priority areas.

Punjab EOC Coordinator Khizer Afzaal paid a surprise visit to Rawalpindi to review the polio campaign arrangements and meet the teams. He visited a hospital in Taxila.
