Filmmaker Karan Johar took to his social media on Sunday to announce the end of shooting for his long-awaited film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The romantic comedy marks his directorial comeback after a seven-year hiatus. Johar last helmed Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Taking to Instagram, the director shared many behind-the-scenes photos from the sets with an emotional note addressed to all his well-wishers. He also revealed the upcoming movie is inspired by an anecdote told by his late father, Yash Johar.

“It’s been seven years since I directed a film. I embarked on a film journey, that I had to stop mid-way for various unavoidable reasons and then the idea of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani came to me," he began. "It was inspired by a real-life family anecdote, which my father once told me about and then my soldiers helped me create everything I wanted to with my seventh feature."

Johar then praised his team and friends as he wrote, “I was blessed with the best team; a team so full of love that bidding them goodbye was not easy, thank you to every one of the core team that helped me through thick, and thin. You know who you are and I love you forever."

The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai filmmaker also dedicated his post to the people that helped him in this journey. "This is for my amazing cast from veterans to friends from first-time actors to established maestros. I am blessed with this illustrious cast who portrayed each part to its visualisation and more. We finally wrapped the film's shooting last night! We can’t wait to share our labour of love, family, fun and sheer joy with all of you," he shared.

Before concluding his note, Johar then revealed the official release date of the film, "See you all at the movies on July 28, 2023!"
