Private schools in Sindh have been barred from selling beverages in glass bottles on campus, according to a notification of the Sindh Education Department's Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions (DIRPIS).
"A sad incident happened a few days ago when a fifth grade student, Huzaifa, studying at a private school died of injuries to his neck after a soft drink bottle exploded at a stall inside the school," said DIRPIS Additional Director Rafia Mallah.
The department also cancelled the school's registration while imposing a fine on the administration over neglect that led to the accident.
Principals and administrators of private schools are ordered to prevent the selling of drinks in any type of glass bottle on school property, the notification said.
Similarly, schools are not permitted to keep or sell soft drinks in glass bottles, but they are permitted to sell them in plastic bottles or cans.
