KARACHI:

Two suspected kidnappers were killed in an alleged encounter as police rescued an elderly man hours after he was abducted from a posh neighbourhood of the metropolitan city on Sunday.

Nazir Ahmed Qureshi drove out of his house in DHA Phase VIII for mosque to offer Fajr prayers when four suspects in a Mehran car seized him.

CCTV footage of the brazen abduction, which surfaced on social media, showed Qureshi sitting in his white car when the suspects forcibly pulled him out before whisking him away in their vehicle.

SHO of PS Defence Adeel Afzal said that they rescued the abducted man after an encounter near Creek Avenue on the road connecting Qayyumabad to Sea View.

He said that police had signaled a suspicious car to stop, but the suspects opened fire. In the retaliatory exchange, two kidnappers, identified as Aqeel Ahmed and Ejaz, were killed.

Nazir Ahmed Qureshi was rescued unharmed during the operation. Police recovered two pistols, ammunition, and the kidnappers' vehicle. Efforts are underway to trace the two accomplices who escaped.

The bodies of the dead suspects were shifted to JPMC for legal formalities, and the case is under investigation.

SHO Adeel Afzal commended the team for their swift action, ensuring the safe recovery of the abductees.

Earlier, Sahil police had registered the kidnapping case on the complaint of Muneeb Ahmed Khan, the grandson of the abducted man.
