Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has strongly criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan, saying that the 'absconder escaped' when police reached Zaman Park to arrest him in the Toshakhana case.
"March 5 will be considered a dark chapter in the history of Pakistan as the court orders have been flagrantly flouted," Memon said while talking to the media at the Chief Minister House on Sunday. "A person who tells people not to panic is himself in panic." He said that everyone should be equal in the eyes of law.
The court order should be implemented in letter and spirit in the matter of Imran Khan, he added. He said that a poor accused is dragged and beaten by police and hauled away in mobile, but Imran was getting VIP treatment. "The arrest warrants against Imran Khan have been issued for stealing gifts from Toshakhana," he added. Memon demanded that the Supreme Court should take sou motu notice of Sunday's episode and Imran Khan should be arrested forthwith.
The Provincial Information Minister said that when the same Islamabad Police reached the residence of former president Asif Ali Zardari to arrest him, everyone witnessed that he presented himself in a graceful manner.
"The former president showed courage and proved to be a true political leader, but the legs of the test tube baby, artificially brought into politics, were shaking with the fear of arrest," he said. The minister said that if it was a case of a poor person, the police would have beaten him and thrown him in police mobiles. Whereas Imran Khan is being given VIP treatment . He asked why PTI workers are being given a call to gather at Zaman Park.
Every party possesses street power. The minister said it seems that there was no law for PTI Chief in the country, he was free to do what he wanted. The minister remarked that Imran's defiance should not be taken as insult to a subordinate court or a lower judiciary but a slap on the face of the law of the country and an insult to the whole judiciary. Memon said that if this person succeeds in his plans today, police will not be able to execute any court orders in future.
He said that this type of anarchy should not prevail in the country and rule of law should be implemented. In response to a question, he said that Pakistan is a strong country, no one can harm this country. No one should threaten that if Imran Khan is arrested, they will harm the country. He said that we all will protect this country.
