On Wednesday, a census worker had reported that his phone had been snatched while he was on field duty in the Landhi area.
It resulted in a viral video and a swift police investigation as the incident was reported on the opening day of the digital census that was marred by technical issues and security concerns.
Police investigation found that the census worker Sohail had lied about the phone. According to police, the enumerator said that his team wasn’t provided security as personnel had been diverted to the ‘favoured enumerators’.
This is why he made up the story that his phone had been stolen, police quoted him as saying. The police said that the man did lose his phone but ‘he either forgot it somewhere or it fell’.
