‘We’re a nation of sadists’: Fans lament trolls after Ushna Shah deactivates Instagram

The actor left the photo-sharing app over bullying a few days after her wedding

Ushna Shah deactivated her Instagram account a few days after her wedding. The actor was “mercilessly trolled and bullied” for what she wore and how she celebrated her big day – so much so that it led to Shah questioning whether she was cut for the entertainment industry or not.

Given this, fans have now taken to Twitter to lament how “miserable” and “hateful” society has become that it made a bride apologise for decisions she chose to take for her big day and was then forced to quit social media for her mental health.

“It's sad to see what a miserable and hateful bunch we've become. Making someone apologise for what they chose to wear on their wedding day. Ushna Shah had to deactivate her Instagram because of all the hate and trolling. Shame on all of us!” read a tweet.

Another user commented on how we made someone “depressed” during one of their happiest days. “Ushna shah deactivates her Instagram just a day after the happiest day of her life, and questions if she’s suitable for showbiz, the industry which she passionately worked for. This is our society! We make people depressed in their happy times and make them leave their passion jobs,” wrote a user.

A tweep blamed “lifeless aunties” for ruining Shah’s big day. “To all lifeless aunties on Instagram and Twitter who criticised Ushna Shah for her dress, shame on your existence. She apologised for that and deactivated her account. I’m still unable to comprehend what was wrong. It was her big day and you all ruined it.”

This user emphasised how our society needs to learn how to mind its own business. “Ushna Shah had to deactivate her account right after her wedding because of the hate she was getting. Our people really need to learn how to mind their own business. Har jaga nafratien nahi phelani chaiye. Apni hi shadi pe koi kia pehan raha hai, kia kar rha hai usko karne den. (We wish to spread hatred everywhere. Let people wear and do what they want at their own weddings.)”

Lastly, a user saw some positivity in this but also criticised how we’re a nation of “sadists.”

They wrote, “Such a nation of sadists; taking pleasure in disturbing someone’s mental peace. They (trolls) think they’ve passed their goal by trolling a person to the extent that he/she leaves that space, but you’re wrong. It is noted people like Ushna refuse to be diseased by our minds. Imagine being so unwanted that people would like to maintain their quality of life by staying away from you."
