Imtiaz Ali's directorial, Jab We Met, is considered one of the most iconic rom-com in Bollywood. The much-acclaimed film returned to theatres after 16 years around Valentine's Day in 2023 and fans were ecstatic to see their favourite stars onscreen again! Shahid Kapoor, recalling the excitement of his fans, revealed in an interview with Pinkvilla that films like Jab We Met are a rarity in cinema nowadays.
“We re-released Jab We Met recently and a lot of people are now asking me why I am not working on a film like this again. The truth is, films like this one are made once every two decades," said Shahid.
The Haider star also remarked how most of the recent romcoms in Indian cinema are not up to par with Jab We Met. He said, "Most of the films associated with this genre are so awful. Somebody needs to pick up a decent script in India. In fact, Imtiaz and I were also discussing finding something in this space again. I want to work on something fun and exciting again.”
Shahid also talked about stepping away from working on serious films at this point in his life. “I want to do something that’s not so serious now, something that’s a little light. The film that I am doing right now with Maddock, which has me and Kriti (Sanon) in it, is that light film,” he shared.
Jab We Met was first released in theatres in October 2007. Other than Shahid and Kareena Kapoor, the romantic drama also starred Tarun Arora, Saumya Tandon, Dara Singh, and Pavan Malhotra in pivotal roles. Shahid was also nominated for Best Actor at the Filmfare Awards, while Bollywood's Bebo won the Best Female Actor accolade for her performance as Geet in the film.
