PDMA sends relief goods to Turkiye, Syria

Rs100m deposited in PM's relief fund for quake-hit people

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday sent relief goods for the people affected by earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria.

Trucks carrying the goods were sent to the Karachi port for transportation to Turkiye and Syria by ship.

According to a statement, the PDMA has also deposited donations amounting to Rs100 million in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the affected people of both countries. Donations are being collected from across Punjab for the purpose.

The relief goods include blankets, quilts, food hampers, warm clothes, sleeping bags, flour, rice and other edible items.

The PDMA had collected the goods from across the province on the directives of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Meanwhile, the caretaker chief minister directed the local administration and traffic authorities to ensure smooth traffic flow during the practice cricket matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He emphasised the importance of effective management to ensure that the arrival and departure of teams would not cause any significant traffic disruption and that security measures were in place.

In a tweet, he expressed remorse over the hardship endured by citizens as a result of the disruption to traffic flow. He announced that the Center Point underpass would be opened for traffic on February 25 after round-the-clock work, which was expected to significantly improve the traffic flow.
