ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday slammed the incumbent government for not paying heed to the court orders, and for allegedly treading the path of constitutional violation.

Speaking to the media, senior party leader Fawad Chaudhry remarked that the high court heard two cases, one pertaining to the contempt proceedings against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not announcing a date for the polls, and the other relating to the removal of Dr Shahbaz Gill’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Fawad said even if a judge gives an order, it ultimately comes down to the institutions’ will to act. He remarked that they do not act if they are unwilling.

He pointed out that the local body elections were not held in Islamabad despite the court’s order. He added that the court’s orders were being mocked.

“Do not make this country a ‘banana republic’,” he advised, adding that the ECP was continuing its work as a “secretary”.

“Abide by the oath, and do not violate it,” he said.

The PTI leader alleged that Maryam Nawaz’s media cell was running a campaign against the courts, but “nobody is there to ask her [about this]”.

He further said that on the other hand, cases were being constantly registered against them.

Dr Gill also pointed out that the country was treading the path of constitutional violation as the courts’ orders were being mocked.

“Today, people are not praying for [General (retd) Pervaiz] Musharraf because he violated the constitution,” he added.

“The same people themselves are violating the constitution,” he added.

The PTI leader said that this is not a war of ideology, but a war of hypocrisy.
