LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader and former defence minister Pervez Khattak met former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday and discussed the political situation as well as the date for elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

During the meeting, Elahi said that there was no justification for delaying the election date after the court’s decision. He remarked that the judiciary stood with the supremacy of the Constitution and would not allow anyone to violate it.

The former CM said that the Election Commission of Pakistan should fulfil its responsibility and release the election schedule immediately.

He called on the governor and the ECP to stop “playing football” on the issue as the nation was seeing how the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was “afraid” of the election.

Khattak said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s popularity was giving sleepless nights to the rulers. “It is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission and the governors to announce a schedule for the elections.”

The former federal minister said that after the court’s decision, no attempt to run away from the election would be successful.

He remarked that political revenge in the form of cases could not stop the PTI.
