Another drowning victim declared dead on arrival at hospital

The body of a child was found from an underground water tank of a residential building in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Sunday. Eight-year-old Rashid had gone missing a day earlier from the building where his father works as a lift operator.

The boy would accompany his father to work on most days as he did on Saturday, the day he went missing. Locals joined the search effort but were not able to find the body. Later, the body of the boy was spotted floating in the water tank. Locals said that the tank cover shut and they had to open the lid to check.

The police and rescue teams were called to the scene, and they shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Station House Officer Safdar Mashwani said the victim was the resident of Bakhtawar Goth.

It seems that the boy accidentally fell in the water tank and drowned, he said before adding that investigating was underway. By the time the family rescued the boy, he was unconscious.

They rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Family told the hospital staff that six-year-old Muhammad Umar Babar fell into the tank while playing. Police said that they had visited the residence and the hospital and were investigating the death.
