From Kiara Advani to Katrina Kaif: Bollywood’s obsession with wearing pink on their big day

Gone are the days when a heavy, red dress was the only available option

Entertainment Desk February 11, 2023

Wedding season is never to be taken lightly. As time passes, marriage ceremonies continue to become grander, upping the ante for future brides-to-be and their families. In all of this, the bridal ensemble is one of the most vital aspects to get right, and Bollywood actors seem to nail this every time.

Gone are the days when a heavy, red dress was the only available option. Mainstream actors have begun opting for a change of pace as of late, with pink hues becoming absolute favorites. Here are 6 times Bollywood brides changed the game with their attire:

Mira Rajput

Wed on July 7, 2015, Mira seems to have set the pace for mainstream weddings to feature differently colored dresses. Her pale pink lehenga that exuded regality was designed by Anamika Khanna. With her hair tied back in a tradition-adhering bun, ornamented with baby’s breath, the young outsider made her mark on the industry in a long-lasting way.

Anushka Sharma

Who can forget the momentous occasion when cricketer Virat Kohli tied the knot with the Band Baaja Baaraat star on December 11, 2017? Decked in a pale pink lehenga that had silver-gold metal thread, pearls, and beads as a part of its intricate embellishments, the actor was a sight to behold in the breathtaking Sabyasachi piece. Her overall look was completed with bridal jewelry handcrafted with syndicate uncut diamonds, pale pink spinel, and baroque Japanese cultured pearls that were a part of the designer’s Heritage Jewelry collection.

Neha Dhupia

Opting for a more minimalist look, Neha embodied the “less is more” ideology on May 10, 2018, in a pale pink Anita Dongre lehenga. Named the Ainiti lehenga, the dress was made with a rich silk fabric that consisted of age-old Rajasthani embroideries, including gota patti, dori, zardozi, and zari. A sheer dupatta accompanied the overall look, with a mint green border and tassel details.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina and Vicky Kaushal set the world ablaze with the news of their wedding on December 9, 2021. Amongst her numerous looks was a pale pink, tulle Sabyasachi sari that doubled as a homage to the Phone Bhoot star’s mother’s British heritage. A trailing veil surrounded the actor to mimic the silhouette of a white wedding gown. The attire was further embellished with hand-cut flowers, semi-precious gems, crystals, and embroidery. The ensemble was accessorized with a statement uncut diamond choker that was detailed with opals and pale Russian emeralds. She also wore matching earrings from Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery.

Athiya Shetty

The Hero star recently tied the knot with Indian cricketer KL Rahul on January 23, 2023. For her wedding, Athiya Shetty donned a pink, hand-woven Anamika Khanna lehenga that was made with silk and embellished with zardozi and jaali work. A silk organza dupatta completed her look.

Kiara Advani

While social media is still reeling from the images shared by Kiara and Siddharth Malhotra from their private wedding ceremony on February 7, 2023, designer Manish Malhotra has gone on to shed light on the Shershaah star’s bridal look. Her rose-colored ombre outfit with intricate embroidery has left fans stunned, alongside the Swarvoski crystal embellishments. The entire look is inspired by Roman architecture. As ornaments, the bride was seen wearing ultra-fine hand-cut diamonds and Zambian emeralds.

These gorgeous looks are sure to set the tone for many brides in Pakistan and India, paving a path for experimentation. While you can never go wrong with the classics, the photographs that have dominated social media from each wedding do most of the convincing to opt for newer color palettes.
