LDA to develop nine ‘model roads’

Action will be taken against traffic congestion, wrong parking and encroachment on the roads

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to transform nine main arteries of the provincial metropolis into model roads.

The decision was made in the maiden meeting of a committee constituted on the direction of Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim to improve the environment of the provincial capital. LDA Director General Aamir Ahmad Khan chaired the meeting on Tuesday.

The committee decided that in the first phase, the main boulevard in Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town G-1 Road will be upgraded.

As per a statement issued after the meeting, it will be ensured that no encroachment is made in the parking areas along the selected roads by schools, hospitals, restaurants and commercial buildings. Strict implementation of building regulations will also be ensured.

Action will be taken against traffic congestion, wrong parking and encroachment on the roads. The main purpose of the model roads is to curb pollution by solving traffic and parking problems.
