Kangana hails 'secular India' for letting Pathaan show 'enemy Pakistan' in a 'positive light'

Kangana claimed that the film’s success was only due to 'India’s love and inclusiveness towards a film called Pathaan'

Actor Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account was restored two years after her controversial post on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led to her being banned from the micro-blogging site.

On the first day of the release of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan, Kangana lauded the film, stating such projects “definitely work” at the box office. However, soon after, the Queen star slammed the film for depicting “enemy nation Pakistan in a good light.”

Her tweets were reportedly a retaliation to Karan Johar’s Instagram post, where he celebrated the action thriller’s phenomenal performance at the box office and wrote, “Love forever trumps hate.” Taking to Twitter once again, Kangana claimed that the film’s success was only due to “India’s love and inclusiveness towards a film called Pathaan.”

She wrote, “All those who are claiming Pathaan is a triumph of love over hate, I agree, but whose love over whose hate? Let’s be precise, who is buying tickets and making it a success? Yes, it is India’s love and inclusiveness where 80% Hindus live, and yet a film called Pathaan, which shows our enemy nation Pakistan in a good light is running successfully. It is this spirit of India beyond hate and judgments that makes it great.”

She also suggested that the film’s name be changed to ‘Indian Pathaan’. Referring to the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, she wrote, “The crux is India will never be Afghanistan. We all know what is happening in Afghanistan. It’s beyond hell there, so an apt name for the movie Pathaan according to its storyline is ‘Indian Pathaan’.”

When a Twitter user named Dr Nimo Yadav tried to rile her up by stating, “Pathaan’s single day earning is more than your lifetime earnings,” the Gangster actor kept her cool and stated that she is not worried about her financial status, adding she does not have any earnings left.

“I have put my house my office every single thing that I owned on a mortgage just to make a film which will celebrate the constitution of India and our love for this great nation. Paise toh sabhi kama le magar aisa koi hai jo aise udai (Anyone can earn money but how many can spend it freely?)”

One of the most awaited movies of 2023, Pathaan opened big at the box office. It is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film and as minted over INR510 million on day one and over INR1 billion globally.
