Assembly dissolution summary to be sent today: K-P CM

Mahmood Khan says instability in country due to 'imported rulers'

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Tuesday said that the summary for the dissolution of the provincial assembly will be sent today to Governor Haji Ghulam Ali.

Addressing the 86th meeting of the provincial cabinet, CM Mahmood said "the last four years have passed by smoothly," adding that the cabinet members and government are grateful to opposition parties' MPAs and the bureaucracy.

Further, he thanked the people of KP for trusting him. "In the interest of the country, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will be dissolved today," he announced.

The chief minister also expressed hope that "in the upcoming general elections, we [PTI] will establish a government with a two-thirds majority in the entire country”.

He asserted that there is instability in the country due to "imported rulers" and getting rid of "the corrupt gang" has become imperative.

Additionally, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in which the dissolution of K-P Assembly was discussed.

In the meeting, it was decided that the provincial assembly will be dissolved today and that CM Mahmood will send a summary to the K-P governor at 10pm tonight.

On January 14, the Punjab Assembly was dissolved despite Punjab Govenor Balighur Rehman’s refusal to sign the summary for the provincial assembly's dissolution.

Following this, the governor sent letters to Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and Leader of the Opposition Hamza Shehbaz for the appointment of a caretaker chief minister, for which three candidates have been nominated.

Subsequently, CM Mahmood announced that a summary would be sent to the K-P governor Haji Ghulam Ali to dissolve the provincial assembly on Tuesday (today) as per instructions from Imran Khan.

Earlier, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif had said that after the dissolution of the K-P Assembly, a letter will also be written to the leader of the opposition, Akram Khan Durrani, for the appointment of a caretaker chief minister.

“Now the federal government has no choice but to hold fresh elections,” said Barrister Saif.
