ISLAMABAD:

The government of France will provide soft loans of €120 million for the development of 128-megawatt Keyal Khwar Hydropower Project, located near the city of Pattan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a statement issued by the Economic Affairs Division on Monday, “The French assistance will support Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) in its drive to develop the hydroelectric power sector in Pakistan,” the statement said.

The funding will also help enhance the competitiveness of renewable power generation, thus promoting affordability and scaling up energy supply.

The project will contribute to the government’s strategy to generate green energy, reduce greenhouse emissions and opt for climate-friendly projects, in line with France’s pledge and commitments announced at the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva on January 9.
