KARACHI:

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) will not enter into any sort of negotiations with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for securing the coveted position of Karachi's mayor, said Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister Saeed Ghani.

The local government elections took the wind out of PTI's balloon, he said speaking at a press conference at the Sindh Assembly Building. People of Karachi have proved utterly wrong the impression that the PTI was a popular political party in the provincial capital.

Ghani said that the people of Karachi chose PPP in the local government polls and this has exposed the reality of the results of rigged general elections held in 2018.

He also congratulated Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and its Karachi leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman for remaining runner-up in the polls as the people of the city had also shown their confidence in the JI and its leadership.

He said it was utterly wrong to assume that the PPP had not secured victory in Karachi in the past elections. He said that his party had gained success in Karachi in the elections held in 1970, 1977, and 1983.

Ghani recalled that the PPP and its allies had secured the greater number of seats in the local government polls in Karachi in 2001.
