PESHAWAR:

After a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and two constables were martyred in an attack on a police post late Friday night on the outskirts of Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Secretary Dr Shahzad Bangash and Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari jointly presided over a video link conference to review the latest law and order situation in the province.

Addressing the participants, the chief secretary maintained that the K-P police was performing their duty professionally against the miscreants.

He said the police was fighting against crime and terrorism and was providing security to the Chinese nationals working on different projects and the anti-polio vaccination teams in an effective manner.

The chief secretary noted that the security of Chinese personnel was of paramount importance.

He directed the participants of the meeting to strictly adhere to the law and order standing operating procedures (SOPs) for the Chinese workers and other foreigners and further improve preparedness to meet any eventualities with iron hands.

The chief secretary lauded the sacrifices rendered by the K-P police in the war against terrorism during the past one-and-a half decade, reminding that they had proved their mettle and hoped that they would again give crushing defeat to the state enemies.

He assured that the provincial government would provide all possible assistance in the capacity building and equipping K-P police with the required gadgets and equipment.

Addressing the police officers present in the conference, the IGP observed that a full-fledged war had been waged by terrorists against the state.

He directed the police officials to enhance their level of preparedness, send cops to the duty points with the protection gears while keeping a check through the concerned SDPOs on a daily basis and obtain report from them about the safety measures.

The IGP vowed to defeat the terrorists and come victorious in the fight against terrorism.

He directed the officers to ensure foolproof security for the Chinese nationals working on different projects, noting that all available resources were being utilised to enhance the capabilities of the police to flush out terrorists from the province.

He said that the process of provision of thermal sights and cameras continued on a “war footing” and expected it to be completed soon.
