KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has ordered police to trace the missing persons in the light of multiple meetings of the Joint Investigation Teams (JITs).

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, issued the order while hearing a petition related to the recovery of missing persons on Saturday.

The court was not satisfied with the police performance. Justice Phulpoto remarked that protection of life and property of citizens is the state responsibility. Even if some citizens go missing on their own, it is the responsibility of the state to find them.

“Despite 18 meetings of the JITs, the result is zero,” the court remarked. “If there is no progress in the investigation, the court will order registration of cases against the area SHOs and SSPs.”

The court further ordered that detention centers and travel history should be checked.
