KARACHI:

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) has arrested the driver of a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer on charges of kidnapping for ransom.

The driver, identified as Hammad, alias Khaliq, was booked in a kidnapping for ransom case by Bilal Colony police last year.

The case involved kidnapping of two men, Faizan and Saad, who were freed allegedly after paying ransom.

They were picked up during a fake raid. After his release, Faizan had registered a case against CTD officer Shoaib and others and also brought the issue into the notice of senior police officials.

The CCTV footage of the alleged kidnapping was also made public. Later, the AVCC police arrested the accused Hammad, alias Khaliq, on the charge of kidnapping for ransom.

During investigation, it also came to light that CTD's mobile vans had been used illegally and people were kept in detention without any reason. Further investigation is in progress.
