Karachi to shiver as cold wave set to hit from Thursday

Met department says cold wave to grip entire Sindh from January 12 till 17th with mercury may drop to single digit

KARACHI:

The port city is likely to experience another cold wave from January 12 till 17th with temperature dropping to as low as five degrees Celsius on Thursday.

According to a forecast issued by the early warning centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Tuesday, a new cold wave may engulf the entire Sindh including Karachi from Thursday which may continue till Tuesday (January 17).

The Met department said minimum temperature is expected to range between five to seven degrees in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tandu Muhammad Khan and Thatta.

Other districts including Larkana, Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Dadu and Tharparkar are likely to experience two to four degrees Celsius temperature.

The weather department said mercury in Shaheed Benazirabad, Nowsheroferoz, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki and Sanghar can drop to three to five degrees during the cold wave.

The weather officials have advised people to take precautionary measures during the cold wave.

The lowest temperature recorded in the metropolis on Tuesday was 13.5 degrees Celsius, an increase of one degree compared to the previous day.

The weather is expected to remain cool and dry in the city while fog may occur in the morning with strong winds during the next 24 hours, the Met department added.
