PM inaugurates Hazara Electric Company

The new company will cater to the needs of around 726,000 consumers

Addressing a ceremony for the establishment of Hazara Electric Company (HAZEC), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday that with the establishment of HAZECO a longstanding demand of the Hazara people has been fulfilled and all formalities in this regard will immediately be completed.

Covering a total area of over 16,774 square kilometers, the new company will cater to the needs of around 726,000 consumers across Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Torgarh, Kohistan Upper, Kohistan Lower and Kolai Plus.

Minister for Energy Engineer Khurram Dastgir said that a grid of 765KV was also ready to be inaugurated in Mansehra, and that the current government had resumed the process of development derailed by the PTI government.

During the ceremony, PM Sharif also sought the business community’s support in implementing the energy conservation plan which aims to close markets and restaurants early to ensure the judicious use of national resources and reduce the import bill.

“I appeal to the business community to extend their support to the government (for energy conservation). This will reduce oil imports and bring down the dollar rate which can later be spent on the country’s progress including agriculture and medicine,” said the prime minister.
