A police official was among the suspected arms smugglers arrested on Thursday.

The Special Investigation Police (SIU), while conducting operations in North Nazimabad Nusrat Bhutto Colony, arrested five arms smugglers of the inter-provincial arms smuggling network.

SIU caught Muhammad Zeeshan Abbasi, Abbas Arbaz Muhammad; Anwar Jan Marjan, Imran, Nasrullah Jan and Muhammad Mohsin Sikandar and recovered five 9mm pistols from them.

According to SSP SIU Junaid Ahmad Shaikh, the arrested accused used to buy pistols from the Dara Adam Khel in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and sell to clients in various areas of Karachi.

The suspects would first bring the pistols from Dara Adam Khel to Abbottabad, where one of their associates, Faizan, a close relative of the a Zeeshan, posted at the DPO office in Abbottabad, would pack the arms in mithai boxes. After packing, the pistols in garb of sweets would be delivered by bus to to Lasbela and Sohrab Goth terminals in Karachi.

From here, the arrested accused, Zeeshan and Anwar, pick up arms and sell them to various criminals through their network.

The arrested accused, Anwar, is a police constable and is posted as an Assistant at 15 Paposh Nagar. The arrested accused receives the weapons packed in sweet boxes from the bus stand in a police uniform and sells them to his customers.
