Welfare dept says majority of rescued minors reunited with families, legal guardians

The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) rescued 9,673 children across the province last year.

The majority of those children, 3,023, were rescued in various parts of Lahore, and 8,000 children were reunited with their families or legal guardians.

According to a spokesperson for the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, 9,673 children were rescued in Punjab in 2022.

Over 3,000 children were rescued in Lahore, 1784 in Gujranwala, 925 in Faisalabad, 908 in Rawalpindi, 1127 in Multan and 677 in Sahiwal.

Moreover, 164 children were rescued in Rahim Yar Khan, 348 in Bahawalpur and 627 in Sialkot.

The spokesperson also said that after finding the parents of roughly 500 missing children in 2022, the Child Protection Bureau reunited them with their parents/families. Two-hundred children who had been the victims of abuse were given protection over the course of previous year, and those responsible were brought to justice.

Over a 1,000 children were taken into custody after receiving 2,626 calls on Child Helpline 1121.

It was decided to expand the Child Protection Bureau's reach throughout Punjab.

According to the bureau's chairperson, Sarah Ahmed, "The Child Protection Bureau has performed better overall over the past 12 months. I hope 2023 will be a prosperous New Year for all of us."
