A police constable was gunned down in Charsadda district of KhyberPakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday. Police told The Express Tribune that constable Muzamal Shah was targeted in a crowded marketplace in Umarzai area of the district in broad daylight.
“Two bike riders opened fire at him and then managed to escape after committing the crime. Muzamal died on the spot,” a police official said.
“The deceased was posted as gunman with deputy commandant Frontier Reserve Police (RFP) in the district. He went to Tangi to meet his relatives and on his way back was attacked by unidentified terrorists,” he added.
A large contingent of police reached the area and started a door-to-door search operation but the attackers managed to escape. Police registered an FIR and started investigation into the case.
The last rites of the slain constable were offered at Charsadda police lines with full guard of honour and the coffin was then sent to his ancestral graveyard for burial. It may be mentioned here that police remained the primary target of terrorists across K-P in 2022. Dozens of attack took place on police killing more than 105 cops. Terrorism attacks across K-P intensified after the fall of Kabul
