Killer of NED student ‘shot dead in encounter’

An accused wanted in the case of killing a student of NED University near Federal Urdu University was killed in an encounter with police, while his accomplice managed to escape. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of the wanted accused, Aziz Bhatti police conducted a raid near Federal Urdu University early Saturday morning, police said.

The accused and his accomplice opened fire on the police, which was returned. As a result of the gunfight, one of the accused was killed on the spot, while his accomplice escaped from the scene.

Police identified the slain accused as Juma Khan, alias Lali, son of Shah Muhammad, and resident of Jamali Goth. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession. Police further claimed that Juma Khan was a most wanted criminal and police were looking for him.

On December 15, muggers were looting people enjoying tea at a restaurant on University Road in the limits of the Mubina Town police station. NED student Bilal bravely tried to overpower the robbers who shot him dead at point-blank range. The FIR was registered at Mubina Town police station. The next day, police conducted a raid on the basis of intelligence reports, but Juma Khan managed to flee.
