There have been 2,081 fire incidents in the metropolitan city in the outgoing year, which, if compared with the previous year figures of 2,311, show a 10% reduction in such incidents. A blaze in a departmental store at Jail Chowrangi was the biggest, while only one fire incident was reported within the jurisdiction of Superhighway Fire Station.
The month of March witnessed the highest number of fire incidents as 240 blazes were reported throughout the city, according to a report released by the Fire Brigade Department. Overall six cases of third degree fire were reported across the city in 2022.
According to the breakdown, 206 fire incidents were reported in January, 184 in February, 240 in March, 189 in April, 186 in May, 179 in June, 187 in July, 113 in August, 121 in September, 215 in October, 162 in November, and 99 until mid-December.
As per the Fire Brigade Department report, 163 conflagrations were reported in the limits of Central Fire Station, 152 in Saddar, 162 in Nazimabad, 103 in Lyari, 132 in SITE Area, 71 in Korangi, 73 in Landhi, 146 in Gulshan Mustafa, 72 in Orangi, 68 in Shah Faisal, 135 in Manzoor Colony, 62 in North Karachi, 28 in Baldia Town, ,4 in Hawke's Bay area, 21 in New Truck Stand area, 65 in Bolton Market area, 112 in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Zero in Cattle Colony Safar, 55 in Civic Center, 55 in Malir, 116 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, 7 in Gulshan-e-Maymar, 1 on Superhighway, 46 in SITE Superhighway 2 , 14 in SITE Association, 69 in Kati Korangi , 80 in Nakati, 55 in export processing zone and 14 in Lati.
As per the report, six third degree (dangerous) fire incidents were reported this year. These included on January 3, in a towel warehouse near New Karachi; on January 11, in a chemical factory in Shershah area; on February 11, in a chemical warehouse in Korangi; on March 18, in a garments factory in SITE area; on May 27, in a foam manufacturing warehouse near Mewashah, Lyari; and on June 1, in a departmental store near Jail Chowrangi.
