Drive against encroachment in schools launched

South and Korangi district education officers send notices to illegal occupants to end possession

The south and Korangi districts, following the Sindh High Court orders have initiated drive to remove the encroachments from schools where shops and rooms have been constructed illegally.

In this regard the District Education Officer (DEO), South, has sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner South stating that as per the orders of the High Court, illegal occupation along the boundary of the schools should be freed from the land grabbers, so that the education process could begin.

The DEO South, Kamal Kumar, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that notices have been issued several times during the past ten years, but orders could not be implemented. However, this time, a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge South. The committee also has members from South District including DC, SP, Director of Schools (Secondary, Primary), Regional Director Colleges, Regional Head Sindh Educational Foundation Karachi and President Karachi Bar Association.

In this regard, DC South has been directed through a letter to immediately implement the court orders to remove the illegal occupants.

He further said that illegal shops have been constructed along the boundary of several schools while rooms have also been illegally constructed in some schools. By vacating this illegal occupation, a green area will be created where children would play and we will restore children's education by building more classes because the enrollment in government schools has increased.

Meanwhile, DEO Korangi Abdul Latif Mughal informed the Civil Judge District East through a letter that following the High Court orders Shah Faisal and Model Town assistant commissioners have managed to vacate few schools from illegal occupants.

He said while talking to The Express Tribune that 19 schools have been illegally occupied in the district and letters have been sent to the encroachers to vacate the institutions.
