LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rahman has said that the experienced team of Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is trying to steer the country out of the economic crisis.

“After making record payments in the first week of December, the risk of default has been averted and the political and economic conditions will improve further in the coming days,” he said while speaking to various members of the Punjab Assembly who called on him on Wednesday.

Rehman said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always respected the institutions and upheld the supremacy of the law and the constitution.

A spokesperson for the governor said the MPAs were of the opinion that the “constitutional order of the Punjab governor asking the chief minister of Punjab to take the vote of confidence was the need of the hour”.

They said the CM had refrained from taking the vote of confidence, which had proved that he was afraid of failing to prove majority support.

They alleged that the previous government had pushed the country towards the economic crisis by taking record loans and its leaders were still pushing the country towards political and economic instability by doing politics of anarchy.

The lawmakers asserted that the people would not allow instability in the country.

The political situation was discussed at length in the meeting.

Newly appointed Inspector General of Police Aamir Zulfiqar also called on the governor who urged him to take effective measures to ensure the protection of the life and property of the people and to prevent crimes.

“The police should help the people in the true sense,” the governor added.

The IGP said security had been put on high alert in the province.
