KARACHI: The Ministry of Information will assist the establishment of Sindhi Media House in Karachi so as to facilitate orientation and capacity building of journalists from rural and remote areas of the province.

Federal Information Minister, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, told journalists following a detailed meeting with the representatives of Sindhi media, comprising chief editors of Sindhi publications and CEOs of Sindhi channels on Thursday.

She said such regional media houses have been established or are in process of being created in all provincial capitals for journalists and media personnel visiting cities from small towns and least developed areas.

“These regional media houses are the nurseries for national level journalism and need to be nourished and groomed,” said the Minister in reply to a question.

To another query she said the project in Karachi would be materialized in close collaboration with provincial Information Department.

The Minister said the government was fully conscious of its responsibilities toward the capacity building of the media professionals and journalists.

“It is with this very perspective that Ministry of Information is about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Government for establishment of a Media University,” she said.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that due priority would be given to the regional journalists in the training programmes to be initiated at the university.

“Capacity building of the journalists is crucial as they reflect the aspirations of the masses and need to get across the message from the masses as well as government in most efficient manner,” said the Information Minister.
