Special anti-terrorism court on the cards

Three years ago, number of these courts was reduced from three to one due to a record reduction in the wave of terror

In wake of the recent wave of terrorism which has swept around the country, the registration of cases pertaining to terrorism in the Counter Terrorism Department police station in the Rawalpindi region has started increasing.

Due to this, it has been decided to form a new special anti-terrorism court for the Rawalpindi region. There were three anti-terrorism courts in the Rawalpindi region at the start of the operation against terrorists by the national security agencies. Three years ago, the number of these courts was reduced from three to one due to a record reduction in the wave of terror.

However, due to the recent increase in terrorism and sabotage incidents, it has been decided to expand the ATCs again. A district and session judge is appointed to the ATCs, whose salary, perks, and security are higher and exceptional than those of other district and session judges.

Under the new circumstances, all national security agencies, police, CTD, and the Special Branch of Rawalpindi region have intensified security and monitoring against terrorism, sabotage and crimes under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The CTD police station, established in the Rawalpindi region in 2015, has so far registered a total of 308 terrorism cases.
