Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman has blasted Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for his failure to curb the street crimes in Karachi since the start of this year.
Zaman pointed out that during the last 11 months, 81,000 incidents of street crimes were reported in Karachi. A total of 518 people were injured or killed during street crimes during this timeframe.
Theft of vehicles and mobile phones snatching continue unabated in the city. During the 11 months of 2022, as many as 52,000 motorcycles as well as 2,000 vehicles were stolen and snatched, whereas, 26,400 Karachiites were deprived of mobile phones.
Zaman believes that these incidents of street crimes and their related violence are appalling and expose the ineffectiveness of the chief minister, IG Police and CCPO Karachi. "If Karachi police cannot fulfill its basic responsibility to protect the life and property of the city's residents, then a new force must be raised that lives in this city," he said.
Zaman also demanded an update on the status of the Karachi Safe City Project from both the Sindh government and the IG Ghulam Nabi Memon.
Moreover, he demanded additional powers for the Rangers to deal with street crimes as these criminals get released from police stations.
"The law and order will be much better in Karachi, if the Chief Minister and the entire Sindh government shift their focus from PTI-bashing to governance," he added.
Meanwhile, in connection with its "Election Karao, Mulk Bachao" Movement, PTI held a rally from Insaaf House to Chenissar Town in Azam Basti in Karachi.
PTI workers carrying party flags participated in the rally in large numbers. Women workers also participated in the rally.
