KARACHI:

Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (CAP) Chairman Khalid Arain and General Secretary Chaudhry Tahir Javed and Telecom Cable Association's Shahid Ismail held meetings with Federal Minister for Information Technology Aminul Haq and Secretary IT on Wednesday.

CAP leaders maintained that Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) was not issuing new licences.

The IT minister assured of calling a joint meeting with chairmen of PEMRA and PTA to resolve the problems faced by the cable operators.

The minister asked CAP chairman to prepare a document about the grievances of cable operators in detail.

The association also requested the IT Minister that the existing licences of cable operators should be made usable.

He said that the policy wing of Pemra was delaying the distribution of broadband services for the last three years.

It remains to be determined whether operators can use IP technology or not.

However, PEMRA is continuing to issue IPTV licenses to all major companies.

The association lamented that the biggest stakeholders have been neglected by the policy wing of PEMRA.
