The clash over administrative control of Isra university apparently continues as both the sides of the opposing litigants seem to have interpreted Sindh High Court's December 9 judgment in their own ways.
The Isra Islamic Foundation (IIF) on Monday nominated Prof Dr Ghulam Qadir Kazi as Chancellor of the university.
On the other hand, the varsity's registrar Abdul Qadir Memon not only assumed the charge of acting chancellor but also allowed the disputed Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Leghari to carry on his work.
"I Abdul Qadir Memon, being the registrar of Isra University, Hyderabad, hereby assume the charge of acting chancellor to perform daily functions of routine in respect of the office of the Chancellor Isra University with immediate effect," reads December 10 notification issued by Memon.
"... being the acting chancellor, do hereby advise Prof Dr Laghari to continue working as the VC of Isra University," reads another notification issued on the same date by Memon.
The SHC, Karachi, on December 9 had ordered the IIF, whose membership was curtailed to seven, to nominate a chancellor within two weeks.
The said nomination was supposed to be followed by the appointment of a new vice chancellor or continuation of the same.
The registrar was directed to oversee day to day functions of the university. "The restored council may announce a date of meeting for nominating a chancellor within two weeks and until then the registrar shall perform daily functions in routine," reads the operating para of the order.
Two groups of academicians, who also happen to be founding members of the IIF, have remained at loggerheads over administrative control of the university and its hospital in Hyderabad.
