Officials request victims to come forward as extortionist scheme busted

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) arrested four suspects who had kidnapped and demanded ransom from citizens by pretending to be officials of CTD.

According to a statement issued by the CTD authorities, four accused, including Sajjad Khan, Mohammad Arbaaz, Salman and Shanu Khatun, were arrested from Korangi 2.5. The accused used to befriend citizens over the phone and then call them at a specific place. When the said person reached a particular place, other companions of Shanu used to kidnap citizens and pretend to be CTD officials.

CTD officials say that the accused used to blackmail citizens and steal money.

In this regard, a victim told the CTD officials that the accused took Rs200,000 from him, and when they came to collect seven lakh rupees more, they were arrested.

The CTD officials have appealed to the citizens who were victims of this trap to contact the police. A case has also been registered at Al Falah police station in this regard. The accused were handed over to the concerned police for further investigation, while more revelations are expected.
