RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has finally released funds to start repair work on the 118-year-old overhead railway bridge near Transit Camp that caved-in three months ago.

The 118-year-old overhead bridge — the only viable link between Rawalpindi city and Cantonment — had been closed to traffic after a section of the crossing bridge caved in mid-August.

The damaged overhead bridge had been in limbo since then after the Pakistan Railways (PR) attached conditions for the reopening of the bridge with the repair of roads passing through the bridge as the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) could not carry out work on the damaged roads owing to paucity of funds.

The closure of the bridge had added to the woes of motorists and commuters alike as the commute between Rawalpindi city and Cantonment had been halted. RCB sources said repair work on the bridge will be started soon.
