QUETTA:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) submitted a petition in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) seeking quashment of cases against Azam Swati, the former federal minister and the central leader of the former ruling party Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI).

A total of five first information reports (FIRs) were registered against the PTI leader for using foul language against state institutions in Khuzdar, Gwadar, Kuchlak, and Zhob.

"PTI challenged the registration of cases against Azam Swati", Syed Iqbal Shah, the lawyer for Swati told journalists at the BHC. He said the court is yet to formally admit the petition.

This petition has come two days after the Balochistan Police arrested the former federal minister Azam Swati in the federal capital and brought him to Quetta. Swati was produced before a local court, which handed over the PTI leader to police for five days of remand. Police had demanded a ten-day remand.

PTI leader Qasim Suri said, this is strange that 50 cases have been registered against Azam Swati in spite of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He said PTI leadership cannot be stopped from what he asserted as its political and democratic struggle in the country.

Suri lashed out at the present government and reiterated that it is an 'imported government' imposed on the masses of Pakistan. "We will resist this setup at all levels since we enjoy the support of the masses”.

A case has also been registered against Shehbaz Gill, the former adviser to ex-PM Imran Khan at Killa Abdullah police station. Maulavi Azizullah, a resident of Killa Abdullah has pleaded in his application that Gill used derogatory language against state institutions in his speeches.
