LAHORE:

Punjab government’s spokesperson Musarat Jamshed Cheema asserted on Monday that the 120 million people of the province would give a befitting response to the federal government in case of a drastic move like imposition of governor’s rule.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court Registry, she said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had strongly demanded the announcement of an election date without any delay.

The spokesperson said there was only an area of 27km under the control of the federal government and the parties in it would not be able to win even 27 seats in the next elections. She said the government had been brought on crutches and now it did not even have the crutches as the people had sounded the death knell for it, while the rulers were seeing their politics ending.

She said former prime minister Imran Khan was among the people even after being shot, while the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had allegedly fled from London and was touring Italy to avoid the law. She lamented that a convict had flown to London for treatment three years back.

The spokesperson said it had been declared regarding the registration of a first information report (FIR) about the murder attack on the chairman of the PTI that more than one case could not be registered over an incident.

She said it was ironic that a person who had the biggest vote bank in Pakistan could not lodge a case of a murder attack on him. She wondered why dozens of FIRs had been filed against Senator Azam Swati. FIRs had been filed against the PTI leader in Sindh and his privacy had been violated, she added.

Musarat Cheema said the federal government was limited to advertisements, while the poor of the country were living in bad conditions.

She said the work done by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi was being acknowledged by the masses as he had started the best projects for them in a short time and the province had entered a new era under his leadership. The provincial government had taken landmark decisions, the spokesperson added.

Senator Ejaz Chaudhry was also present on the occasion.

PML-N weighs options

Meanwhile, PML-N’s provincial spokesperson Azma Bukhari said all options would be used for stopping dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.

Talking to the media after a parliamentary committee meeting of the party chaired by former chief minister Hamza Shehbaz, she said the PTI and the PML-N had equal votes in the Punjab Assembly.

The PML-N leader said PTI chairman Imran Khan had failed in all his moves so far and he would also fail to dissolve the provincial assembly.

She said the constitutional tenure of all assemblies should be completed and the PML-N would not let them be dissolved.

“We have seen what the PTI did over the matter of resignations from the National Assembly,” Azma Bukhari said, claiming that the party’s parliamentarians had been forced to tender resignations.

The PML-N spokesperson asked why the people of Punjab should suffer for one person’s wishes.

She said that if certain people wanted to tender resignations, they might do so, and by-polls would be held for the vacant seats.

PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar said the party would use all options to ensure that the assemblies completed their constitutional tenure.

He said ally parties would be consulted over the issue of a no-confidence motion and the Punjab governor could ask the CM to seek a vote of confidence.

“Many PTI parliamentarians do not want dissolution of the assembly,” he claimed.
