Rs1 billion trust for artistes announced

CM raises stipend, offers job, cheque to Teddy's son

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced that a trust would be established for the welfare of deserving and needy artistes in the province.

The chief minister handed over a Rs3 million cheque to the late actor Tariq Teddy's son Junaid and announced immediate employment for him at the CM Office.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said the special trust for the artistes would be established with an initial fund of Rs1 billion and legislation would also be done in this regard.

A board of trustees headed by the chief minister has been constituted to decide about the disbursement of relief fund.

The provincial information secretary will be the board's secretary, while Qavi Khan, Syed Noor, Sohail Ahmed, Nauman Ijaz, Javed Sheikh, Iftikhar Thakur, Qaisar Piya, Samina Ahmed, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Thakur Lahori will be its members.

The chief minister has enhanced the monthly assistance to artistes from Rs5,000 to Rs25,000.
