KARACHI:

Police have busted a gang of suspected thieves of Afghan origin involved in stealing panels and navigation systems from vehicles in upscale neighbourhoods of Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Clifton, Tariq Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Police seized weapons, tools and stolen goods from the suspects who were found to be illegal immigrants living in an illegally occupied area in Sohrab Goth locality.

According to Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station SHO Inspector Safdar Mashwani, police conducted secret surveillance and patrolling on the increasing incidents of burglaries of valuable gadgets in parked cars. The gang used to break into the vehicles by breaking their quarter glass, Mashwani said quoting statements of the suspects.

The three arrested suspects include Naseem Khan, Karimullah and Khaista Khan, who committed such incidents in posh areas. In addition to weapons, the police have also recovered four valuable laptops, eight mobile phones, cars, tools and other items from them.

As per police, the arrested suspects are illegal Afghan immigrants living in an encroached area of Sohrab Goth.

The suspects told the police that they are more than 15 men who spread out in the city to steal side mirrors, LED panels, navigation and sound systems of expensive vehicles. The suspects said they strike in posh areas of the city including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshane Iqbal, Bahadurabad, DHA and Clifton among others. After breaking the window of the car, they take out the goods within a few minutes and hand them over to their companions in the nearby car who escape with the stolen goods.
