It won’t be wrong to label The Princess Diaries, a notable romcom, the millennial generation's dose of nostalgia. The film also garners a huge fanbase that has long desired a third feature to revive their childhood memories.

Now, finally, the wishes have come true as the third installment of the film is under development at Disney, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Within minutes, the news of a third Princess Diaries film made rounds on social media, leaving fans ecstatic and already on board to accept the upcoming pop cultural motion picture, but on one condition: it should feature their favourites, Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

The aforementioned actors starred in the last two Garry Marshall helmed ventures, The Princess Diaries and its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Now that the series is set for a third adaption, fans are speaking up on social media to have Hathaway and Andrews reprise their roles in the upcoming film.

Taking to Twitter, a fan shared a picture of Hathaway and commented on how "Disney does not need to make" Princess Diaries if it doesn't feature Hathaway.

"If Hathaway is not going to be in Princess Diaries 3, then Disney does not need to make it," said the user.

Another tweep took a crasser tone and ordered the franchise to “confirm Hathaway or cancel" the film effectively. More fans chimed in to express their discontent with a sequel that does not include Hathaway or Andrews.

Another user jokingly expressed, "I'd rather see a Princess Dairies 3 where Hathaway, Andrews and Chris pine act against a cardboard set for two hours than a movie using that title without them."

The majority of fans still showed their excitement for the upcoming film and were eager for its release.

One user wrote, "Princess Diaries 3? I can't wait!"

Another mentioned the news Freaky Friday 2 and how these comebacks "might cure" their illness. "But if Princess Dairies 3 and Freaky Friday 2 actually happen it might cure my depression," said the user.

As the fans continue to demand Hathaway for the new role in the sequel written by Aadrita Mukerji, it is still unknown whether the actor will return to her role as the relatable princess Mia Thermopolis.

However, The Devil Wears Prada actor has indicated an interest in returning to the series that made her an iconic celebrity amongst teenagers, along with her on-screen grandmother Andrews, who portrayed the refined Queen Clarisse Renaldi.

During a discussion on Entertainment Tonight, Hathaway expressed her desire to join the cast, if her co-stars were on board too. She said, "I would more than entertain it, I'm cheering for it. If Andrews could be persuaded to join in, I'm certain we could pull it off."
