10 uplift projects for Pindi division okayed

Eight schemes for LG&CD, two for PHED among those approved

RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has approved as many as 10 development projects for the Rawalpindi division to improve local governance and public health.

According to a statement, a total of 8 schemes for Local Governance and Community Development (LG&CD) while 2 schemes for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) have been approved.

Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Saqib Manan presided over the meeting of the Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) and approved the projects after a detailed discussion, the statement read.

It was also decided that all the projects will be completed within two years of period.

Speaking on the occasion, Saqib Manan said the quality of work should not be compromised in the race for utilising maximum funds, the communiqué stated.

He said roads constructed in far-flung areas often see a delay in the release of funds for repair, therefor, best quality work should be ensured for durability.

The statement also stated that 2 schemes worth Rs157 million of construction of a drainage nullah, retaining wall and PCC streets were approved for ward no 2 and ward no 8 of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board by the PHED.

Likewise, schemes approved for LG&CD include 8 schemes of construction of roads in Jhand tehsil at an estimated cost of Rs493 million, it stated.

As per the statement, construction of a 2.88 km long road from village Dupper to Ratti Kari and 1.1 km long road from Mukhad Road to Muhammad Ali Chowk among other are included in these projects.

The commissioner also stated that the repair and construction of main highways, as well as link roads, are very important which not only facilitates pedestrians but also protects them from accidents.

The meeting witnessed the presence Attock Deputy Commissioner Waqar Hassan Cheema, LG&CD XEN Taha Hussain, Rawalpindi Highway XEN Dilshad Ahmad and other officials.
