KARACHI:

Timely intervention by police saved the life of a young man from a lynching mob. People in Majeed Para mistook Muhammad Ahmad as a pedophile stalking children and pounced on him.

Beating Muhammad Ahmad black and blue, the locals even tied him to an electric pole and were ready to finish him when a mobile of Aziz Bhatti police station rolled and dispersed the crowd. The area residents claimed that Ahmed attempted to abduct children from a local park.

Aziz Bhatti police station SHO Adeel Afzal said the incident was a result of a misunderstanding.

He said that as per investigation a few children and Ahmed ran into each other in the park. As Ahmed was helping the children, the locals apprehended him over the accusation of abduction. They tied him to a pole and tortured him. SHO said that Ahmed and the area residents have agreed to forego legal action against each other.
