The Commissioner of Multan division, Ashfaq Ahmad Chaudhry, said that the health sector was being expanded to provide medical facilities to the people.
He said that Nishtar Hospital had been bearing the burden of patients from across South Punjab.
The commissioner expressed these views during a surprise visit to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan on Wednesday.
He reviewed the wards, operation theatre and the ongoing development projects in the hospital.
He ordered officials to complete all the development schemes on time and to maintain quality.
The Vice Chancellor of the Nishtar University, Professor Dr. Rana Altaf, said that the Nishtar Hospital didn’t refuse any patient, and patients were being treated beyond the capacity of 1,700 beds.
Last year, 869,769 patients were treated outdoors, and 601,530 patients were treated indoors. A pharmacy college was being inaugurated, and classes would be started soon, he said.
Work on the Mother and Child Care Hospital was going on. Completion of Nishtar II would help reduce the patients’ burden on the Nishtar Hospital.
The tender process for the children's burn center to be built at a cost of Rs175 million had started. The tender process for the purchase of important equipment and supplies for the mortuary had started at a cost of Rs30.625 million.
