Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi filed a petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday, seeking the implementation of the court's earlier verdict for local government elections in the city.
JI Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and JI Karachi Public Aid Committee President Saifuddin Advocate filed the petition.
The petition pleaded with the Supreme Court of Pakistan to order the ECP to announce the final date for immediate local government elections in the city so Karachiites could exercise their constitutional and legal right.
The constitutional petition read that the ECP and the provincial government violated the apex court's verdict multiple times by deferring local government elections in Karachi. The plea also charged the respondents with violating the law and the constitution by depriving the residents of Karachi of their due right to an elected local government.
The application mentioned that the apex court had passed an apparent order on August 17 to hold local government polls in the city on August 28.
