A man and his wife who suffered severe burn injuries on Monday morning, died in hospital on Tuesday Riaz, 50, and his wife Husn Ara, 45, and their five children had suffered severe burn injuries in a fire caused by gas leakage at their home in the Millat Colony area of Orangi Town on the night between Sunday and Monday.
The condition of Riaz's two sons, Ali Raza, 26, and Anas Raza, 16, was also reported as very critical.
One son and two daughters are reportedly in stable condition.
According to the police, initially, the mother, her two children, and one son were out of danger, but the head of the family, Riaz, and his two boys were in critical condition.
According to Millat Colony residents, the area is a powder keg, ready to blow up any time due to rusty and broken gas lines.
"We have been complaining to the Sui Southern Gas Company for the past three years about gas is continuously leaking from the ground, not only in the houses but also in the streets," Riaz's neighbour said.
Residents said that gas company workers had once visited and marked meters of houses where they detected 45 to even 90 per cent gas leakage.
The utility service workers have not returned since then, the locals said adding that gas leak explosion in Riaz's house was third in the Millat Colony neighbourhood.
